Obituary for Lieutenant General William J White, USMC (Ret.)


Lieutenant General William J. White, USMC (Ret.) of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2017.

He was born on March 24th,1925 in New York, New York to Eleanor and John White. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1943 after graduating from high school and was commissioned in 1946 through the Naval Aviation Pilot Training Program. He served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War, earning the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross, a Gold Star, and the Legion of Merit. In 1973 he was awarded an additional Gold Star for his service as the Commanding Officer of the Marine Air Station, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. He was a graduate of the University of Maryland and held a M.S. in International Affairs from George Washington University. He retired in 1982 as Deputy Chief of Staff for Aviation. Following his retirement, he worked for 23 years as a consultant in the aviation field for Burdeshaw Associates, LLC.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Klondean Pickering White of Princeton, Kentucky. He is survived by his daughters, né Cynthia Klondean, Sandra Pickering, and Elizabeth Christon, and sons-in-law, Richard Hesel, James Holcombe, and Omar Mahmassani. He has four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2017 from 1:30 PM until 2:15 PM at Morgan's Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 2:30 PM at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
